Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry at The University of Kentucky is accepting applications for a postdoctoral researcher. The appointment is for one year with renewal dependent on performance and availability of funding. Responsibilities include independently driving research with minimal supervision towards publication in peer reviewed journals, grant applications, and presentation at scientific meetings. We are seeking a candidate with extensive biochemical, biophysical, or bioinorganic chemistry experience to support a growing R&D program in heme protein biophysics and catalysis. Expertise in cloning, protein expression, purification, catalysis and mechanistic studies is needed. Skill with various spectroscopic techniques (generally, CD, UV/Vis and Fluorescence) and analysis is also strongly desired.

Successful candidates must be willing and able to work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists to develop functional enzymes for various applications, and assess activity and biophysical features in vitro, in engineered membranes, and in cells. The candidate will be expected to link protein structure and biophysical characteristics with experimental activity data to develop structure-activity relationships (SAR). Findings will be published in peer-reviewed publications.
