Job Summary

The Department of Forestry at the University of Kentucky is currently seeking an Assistant Professor of Tree Physiology. This is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment with starting date no later than January 1, 2018. Responsibilities include approximately 70% research, 25% teaching, and 5% service.

The successful candidate will be expected to build a nationally recognized research program, as demonstrated by success in acquiring extramural funding, publication in leading refereed journals, and graduate student recruitment and mentorship. The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment with researchers in related fields and foster collaboration with departmental faculty in teaching and through research relating to diverse forestry and natural resource issues. Areas of research pertinent to this position include, but are not limited to, forest and urban tree response to biotic and abiotic stresses and disturbance including forest management practices, ecophysiology of forest production and water use, and adaptation to climate change. Expected teaching responsibilities include graduate instruction in the general area of tree physiology and genetics as well as undergraduate courses that contribute to the department’s Bachelor of Science in Forestry degree program accredited by the Society of American Foresters (SAF).

Preferred Education/Experience

Candidates are sought with a demonstrated expertise and ability to conduct research in tree and woody plant physiology. Preference will be given to candidates whose tree physiology research and/or experience integrates the influence of forest/tree genetics, environmental stresses, and climate. At least one professional forestry degree is preferred. Candidates who possess postdoctoral experience are also preferred.
