Job Summary

The University of Kentucky Proposal Development Office is seeking a graduate student to assist in delivering proposal and research development services to UK researchers. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing PDO professional staff support in their roles assisting faculty, staff, administrators, and students in seeking and securing external funding for their projects. Working in the Proposal Development Office will provide the graduate student an opportunity to learn about federal and private funding programs and ways in which University of Kentucky faculty and staff support their research and scholarly activities through external grants, contracts, and fellowships.

Specific areas of responsibility and related activities include:

-Information Acquisition and Dissemination
Monitor federal and private funding announcements; maintain data files and databases; and distribute fudning alerts and notices through electronic distribution lists.

-Proposal Development Support
Conduct funding searches in collaboration with PDO professional associates based on specific faculty areas of interest and expertise.
Assist PDO staff in proposal development activities

-Workshops and Presentations
Assist in the preparation and presentation of PDO workshops for UK faculty, staff, and students

-Program and Services Evaluation
Assist PDO in tabulating, interpreting, and summarizing the results of workshop evaluations and unit reports

-Overview of Grants and Contracts Administration
Attend weekly PDO staff meetings and other meetings on campus, as assigned.

-Other Activities
Maintain online database of institutional facility descriptions. Conduct other special projects as assigned.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Applicant should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, and Power Point) and internet search or database tools. Applicant should be self-directed and able to complete tasks independently. Successful applicant will have strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
