Job Summary

The Department of Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track, assistant professor who will actively contribute to the impact we are making on campus and regionally. In the past five years, the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies (GWS) has quadrupled the number of undergraduate majors and minors; launched its GWS doctoral program; initiated an undergraduate Sexuality Studies Certificate open to all UK students; and created an annual Kentucky GWS conference, which this inaugural year has attracted 350 registrants from 10 colleges and universities. We in the Gender and Women’s Studies Department enjoy and encourage research and teaching collaborations with other interdisciplinary networks, departments, and programs. We want to hire a scholar whose innovative engagement in the classroom, presence in campus life, and contributions to professional discourse will underscore and advance these recent developments. Specifically, we are seeking a scholar committed to transnational or diasporic approach to indigenous studies, disability studies, or African American studies.

A PhD in Gender and Women’s studies or a PhD in a related field with a graduate certificate or a concentration in feminist studies or gender and women’s studies is required. Expectations for teaching entail a broad range of required core courses, including large-lecture introductory classes, in our undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional promise as scholars and teachers, as well as a strong commitment to departmental and university service. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in hand or by August 2018 and we encourage applications from advanced assistant professors.

Applicants must submit the following: 1) a cover letter including a statement of research and teaching interests, 2) curriculum vitae, and 3) one publication or professional paper (upload as Specific Request 1).
